All Ireland Adjudicator 2018 - Mr. Tom Byrne
Tom is a native of Celbridge, Co Kildare but lives in nearby Leixlip.
He has over 35 years involvement with amateur drama and competed in his first festival in 1979.
Tom has won numerous awards as a director and successfully qualified productions to the RTE All Ireland finals in Athlone in 2009 and 2010.
He holds the unique record of qualifying productions to six successive All Ireland One Act Finals- directing All Ireland Open winning productions in 2005, 2009 and 2010. In the finals of 2005 he not alone won with his production of “Small box Psychosis” but he also directed “Babels In Arms” which finished in third place.
Over the years he has directed over one hundred different productions and regards Friel, Shepard, O’Casey and Miller among his favourite authors.
In the early 1980’s he was a member of the Dublin Shakespeare Society which is where he met his wife Maria. They have four sons Ken, Phil, Brian and Matthew.
Tom is joint Artistic Director of Red Embers Theatre Company for whom last month he staged “The 39 Steps”. Later this year he will direct “Orphans” by Lyle Kessler.
As a writer his radio play “Howzee”-surrounding his experience as a football referee – has been broadcast by RTE and his most recent work for stage “This Other Land” was performed in Castletown House in 2016.
Since taking up adjudicating in 2011 he has adjudicated in the four provinces of Ireland including two Macra Na Feirme National Finals and the 2016 All Ireland One Act Finals.
He currently enjoys adjudication bookings up to the year 2022.
